Under the May 2026 amendment to Korea's Act on Support for Overseas Expansion of Healthcare, patients abroad will be able to have remote consultations with Korean physicians — including first visits and prescriptions — from May 2027.
What changes
Until then, the pre-travel review proceeds as 'guidance based on a physician's opinion'. Once the change takes effect, the same process becomes a formal remote consultation, covering first visits and prescriptions. Follow-up and prescriptions after you return rest on the same basis.
What it means for patients
- The pre-travel opinion becomes a formal medical record
- You can receive prescriptions from Korean physicians after you return
- Three-way video consultations with your local physician take place within the system
What we are preparing
We will issue opinions within the current rules until then, and switch to formal remote consultations when the law takes effect. We will update this post when the enforcement decree is published.
